The Komani lake ferry at a glance

The Komani lake ferry crosses Lake Koman between the landing at Koman and the landing at Fierza. The trip takes about 2 hours 30 minutes between steep rock walls, with the water below and the mountains above. It is a common way into the Albanian Alps.

The ferry is a boat, not a bus. It carries people, bicycles, motorbikes and cars, and each category has its own fare. It does not stop in Kukës. Kukës is on Lake Fierza, and the ferry sails on Lake Koman, the reservoir downstream.

Motorbike€18.50€21 or ALL 2,100

The car fare is charged per square meter, not as one price per vehicle. A 5 percent surcharge can apply to PayPal payments. For most travelers on foot, the cash fare or the online fare at the lower end is the simplest choice; drivers should book the space first.

Cars, parking and the terminal tunnel

The terminal is reached through a tunnel. A confirmed ferry reservation is required before a car drives through it. Do not park in the tunnel or at the terminal.

A private lot about 750 m from the terminal, a ten-minute walk, charges €5 for up to 24 hours. It cannot be reserved in advance. An optional transfer between the lot and the terminal costs €5. Another private lot near the port is open daily from early morning to late evening, roughly 07:00 to 22:00 or 23:00. Ask for the price on site.

A ferry near the shore of Lake Komani

From Fierza on to Valbona

A road transfer, not a second boat.

The boat ends at Fierza. From there a minivan runs to the Valbona valley. It leaves Fierza at 12:00 and arrives at about 13:00, for €8 per person. In the other direction it picks up at hotels in Valbona at 10:30 and reaches Fierza at about 11:30, also €8. A later departure from Fierza at 16:00 may also run, so check the current timetable.

The minivan is an add-on. You get it when you book another service from the same operator and pay the online ticket in advance. It is not a public bus that anyone can board without a booking. For the 09:00 sailing from Koman, the 12:00 minivan is the connection that fits.

Valbona is a mountain valley with guesthouses and a pass walk to Theth. Read the Valbona page before you plan the pass, because a running ferry says nothing about snow on the mountain. For guided versions of the same route, see the Albanian Alps tours.
